Why Is It They Get It In Europe, But Not Here?

Oh I know why. They have already tried socialism and found it does not work. If Obama was as smart as some think he is then he would turn right as well. We need a hard right turn people.

Norway turns to the right

A new public opinion poll indicates that fully 45.5 percent of Norwegian voters would cast ballots today for either the right-wing Progress Party or the Conservatives. Together, they have far more support than the current left-centre coalition government and are close to a majority in parliament.

The results of the poll, conducted by research bureau Opinion for news group ANB, mark a major shift in traditional political persuasion in a country modelled as a social welfare state. And the results are bad news for the Labour Party, which currently heads the left-centre government.

Newspaper Dagsavisen reported Thursday that fully 27.7 percent of voters now support the Progress Party (Fremskrittspartiet, Frp), Norway's most right-leaning party represented in parliament. That's up 1.5 percentage points from the last poll.

The poll results indicate that the Progress Party is thus Norway's largest, bigger than Labour, which garnered 25.3 percent of the vote, down 1.7 points. That's a relatively small amount of support for Labour and a real downturn for the party, given its history of dominance in Norwegian politics.

The Conservative Party (Høyre), meanwhile, also gained voter support, up 1.4 points to 17.8 percent. That's quite a bit smaller than the Progress Party, but together, the two parties could rather easily form a non-socialist ("borgerlig") government with more than 45 percent of the vote.

By contrast, the three parties forming the current government with Labour together commanded only 36.9 percent of the vote, ironically the exact same percentage that former Labour leader Thorbjørn Jagland once said was needed by Labour alone to rule. Labour had to leave power in 1997 when it "only" won 35 percent in national elections.

The current poll shows just how far Labour has fallen since that time. Its government partner SV (the Socialist Left party) also saw support slip, to 5.9 percent, while the Center Party (sp) rose slightly, to 5.7 percent of the vote.

Voters want change, and more for their money
Explanations for Norwegians' new attraction to more conservative politics varied, from theories that voters are simply tired of the current ruling coalition, to a desire for change and even a new perceived sense of greediness after years of rising affluence tied to high prices for Norway's oil. They're perhaps less willing to share their newfound wealth with the rest of society, preferring to keep more of their earnings for themselves, argue some.

Tommy Wessel, a longtime Progress Party voter, disagrees. He's simply fed up that his daughter's school is as rundown as it is, and that his parents can't get a room in local nursing homes. He, like many others, perceive a decline in social services, while taxes keep going up.

He can't understand why the government won't use more of its oil wealth to invest in the public sector at home, something the Progress Party wants to do. Even longtime Labour Party voter Eve Vold shares his frustration.

"I'm disappointed with (Prime Minister) Jens (Stoltenberg)," Vold said. "There's so much talk. The government doesn't live up to expectations for schools and health care." She thinks voters are fleeing to the Progress Party because it says things people agree with.

"The Progress Party speaks a language people want to hear," agrees Wessel. Party leader Siv Jensen has made it clear she's ready to take over as prime minister, but that still depends on cooperation from the Conservatives. Unlike some of the small centrist parties that have claimed they'd never cooperate with the Progress Party, the Conservatives are keeping the door open.

Symbolism Over Substance. Just Like Obama.

Obama supporters gather for "Yes We Span" in Spain

This is a bridge to nowhere folks. From Expatica.

Democrats in Spain join worldwide campaign initiative and will meet Saturday on top of Calle Bailén bridge.

22 May 2008

MADRID - "Barack Obama is a uniter." You can hear the phrase coming from the lips of the Democratic presidential hopeful's more outspoken supporters both domestically and abroad.

And it was this very concept that sparked the idea for the international initiative dubbed "Yes We Span," involving local rallies of overseas Obama supporters in the various world cities where they reside.

Over the past 14 months, "Yes We Span" has seen pro-Obama groups pose in over 35 cities for collective photos on landmark bridges, sights symbolic of the presidential hopeful's uncanny power to bring people together.

A spin-off from the music video Yes We Can that instantly popularised US Senator Barack Obama's campaign slogan, bridges over the past year have become the backdrop to Obama supporters from Paris to Jakarta, London to Istanbul, and Berlin to Barcelona.

The photos run on loop on Obama's website, and a montage is being set to music with the idea of it being shown at the Democratic National Convention in August.

The initiative was brainstormed by Meredith Wheeler last March at a Democrats Abroad meeting in Brussels. Wheeler, an American living in Strasbourg, France, and chair of her Democrats Abroad (DA) chapter, saw the initiative as a way for her to use her influence and connections with the organization's chapters worldwide to support her choice for candidate.

"Why not use the bridge as the symbol of his campaign and gather photos of supporters on famous or scenic bridges around the world - showing that the world wants Obama?" she says.

Last Saturday, 35 Obama supporters in Barcelona spanned across the Rambla de Mar Bridge. Event organiser and member of DA Barcelona, Adam Lang, said that the Obama issue is hitting particularly close to home.

"For me spanning across the world shows that Obama is the choice for us overseas Americans, who really have a front-row view of the disaster that is the current US foreign policy in our daily lives."

In Madrid, Obama supporters will meet this Saturday at 12 noon on top of Calle Bailén bridge.

Sean Carroll, an event organizer from DA Madrid explains: "The idea is that Obama is unifying. He is the candidate that bridges differences. And the international initiative shows that relations between us and other countries are broken and we need to build these bridges back up."

Describing the Illinois as "electric” and not hesitant about using what has been Obama's buzz word, "change," Carroll says that he has never been so excited about a candidate.

A veteran of Democratic campaigning, he has previously volunteered for candidates from Walter Mondale to John Kerry, but "it is Obama who really gets people excited," he says. "If he gets elected, it will be the right change."

Although Obama is one step closer to the nomination after Tuesday's primary win in Oregon, Hillary Clinton, unwavering in her allegiance to what Obama supporters criticize as the opposing message, has vowed to "fight on".

Naked Mummies. And Not The British Kind. The Egyptian Kind.

How silly is this. But this seems to be the day for stuff like this. It's my kind of day.

Museum covers up ‘naked’ mummies
Web posted at: 5/22/2008 6:44:33
Source ::: AFP

LONDON • A British museum is covering up its collection of ancient Egyptian mummies following visitor complaints about them going on show "naked", it said yesterday.

Two unwrapped mummies and one partially wrapped mummy out of 11 on display at The Manchester Museum in northwest England were covered after comments were received that they should be treated with more respect and dignity.

The mummies will be kept under wraps temporarily while a public consultation is carried out about the best way to display human remains at the centre, said deputy director Piotr Bienkowski."This is an interim measure designed to find out public reaction because of the negative comments we have been getting, especially about the unwrapped mummies," he said.

"We collect visitor comments on a regular basis and over the last few months there have been an awful lot of people questioning the public and educational value of showing such mummies."

He said that public perception of displaying human remains, particularly those from the United States, Australia and New Zealand, had shifted and questions are now being asked why Egyptian remains are treated differently. British public opinion had also been affected by recent revelations about the unauthorised detention by pathologists of children's organs at British hospitals.

Bienkowski accepted that covering the mummies was "slightly provocative" but said it was designed to generate debate and to determine whether the museum's policy on displaying human remains should be applied consistently. Reaction on the museum's weblog showed that many Egyptologists are against the move. One respondent called it "totally misguided". Another called it "misinformed" while a third called it a "step backwards".

A Cool New Place For Palestinian Terrorist To Drive Their Truck Bombs.

I only posted this because I had a title I liked for it. I don't give a rats back side about the Saudis building a mall in Palestine. Lipstick on a pig as far as I can see. I will say though, given the money the Saudis are making off me filling up my gas tank, maybe they could just buy the whole "country" and clean the rats out of that sewer. Here you go from www.asharqalawsat.com.

Saudi-Led Group to Build Palestinian Mall Complex

22/05/2008

BETHLEHEM, West Bank, (Reuters) - The Palestine Investment Fund and a Saudi-led group signed a $200 million deal on Wednesday to develop a Palestinian commercial real-estate project in the occupied West Bank.

The project, slated for launch this year, envisages a 50-dunam (12 acre) plot in the centre of the hub city of Ramallah with shopping, financial and leisure facilities.

The Land Holding Company, a subsidiary of Al-Rajhi group, and the PIF signed the deal in the West Bank city of Bethlehem during a conference aimed at encouraging foreign investment in the administration of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The signatories said they would set up a dedicated company, Arduna, to expedite the project.

Established in 2003, the Land Holding Company is a leading real-estate company in the Middle East. It has been involved in projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Jordan.

It's A Bird, It's A Plane, No It's A Flying Pen!s

Pro-Kremlin activists take aim at Kasparov speech
Flying pen!s disrupts Russian political rally

DUBAI (AlArabiya.net)

An unusual flying object disrupted an anti-government rally held by Russian chess champion turned Kremlin critic, Garry Kasparov, press reports said Thursday.

Kasparov's plea for unity against Vladimir Putin – being delivered to a group of 500 Kremlin critics in Moscow – was interrupted when a remote-controlled flying pen!s flew through the room.

The device - which appeared to be a modified twin-rotor toy helicopter - caused an immediate commotion, UK daily the Metro reported.

A video taken at Wednesday's event shows the chopper briefly evading capture before a security guard leaps from the stage and swats it down.

According to the Moscow Times website, the prank was staged by "a couple of pro-Kremlin Young Russia activists" who had launched a "plastic phallus on propellers".

"I think we have to be thankful for the opposition's demonstration of the level of discourse we need to anticipate," said Mr. Kasparov after the attack, according to Canada's National Post newspaper.

"Also, apparently most of their arguments are located beneath the belt," he added.

Kasparov -- who was famously beaten at his own game by IBM's Deep Blue more than a decade ago -- was arrested and jailed by Russian police for his activism last year.

Nude Flight Canceled.

German nudist flights scrapped over 'moral' qualms

Published: 22 May 08 15:57 CET
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/12031/

Despite being fully booked by naturists wanting to take off and strip off, a German travel company said on Thursday it has decided to scrap a special nude flight that had been scheduled for this summer.

    * German nudist flight could be grounded (6 Apr 08)

The July 5 flight was due to be the first of many and was aimed at east Germans nostalgic for the naturism that was authorized and extremely popular under communist rule.

But OssiUrlaub.de, the firm organizing the service to a picturesque Baltic Sea island, said it has had second thoughts after "moral objections" in the media and from visitors to its Internet portal, a spokesman said.

The 50 people with tickets would have boarded the flight in the eastern city of Erfurt fully clothed, but once on the plane would have been free to undress and enjoy the rest of the journey as nature intended.

They will now receive a full refund as well as a voucher for other products offered by the company, whose core business caters to holidaymakers who keep their clothes on, it stressed.

Coming A To Rest Room Near You In Colorado. "All 'public accommodations,' including restrooms, would be opened to men, women, bisexuals, transsexuals and transgendered individuals."

bathroom
Now remember, it's only here in the RockyMountain state for now. But, if they get away with it here all kinds of interesting people may be sharing the rest room, with you, in yours state as well. More importantly they will be in there with your kids. Here is the pull quote.

"...sexual predators can be expected to use this law as "cover" as they search for their next victims — in any public bathroom they come across.

This is what you get from the left in this country. To heck with our kids safety, they have there immoral agenda to ram down the throats of us narrow minded people here in fly over country. Let’s not give the sexual predators another way to get at your kids. Contact that idiot Ritter and let’s stop this thing.

Here is the story from CitizenLink.

by Jennifer Mesko, managing editor

All 'public accommodations,' including restrooms, would be opened to men, women, bisexuals, transsexuals and transgendered individuals.

The next time you visit Colorado, you may run into members of the opposite sex when you use a public restroom.

Under a bill sitting on Gov. Bill Ritter's desk, all "public accommodations" must be open to men, women, bisexuals, transsexuals and "transgendered" individuals.

Senate Bill 200 adds religion and sexual orientation to state nondiscrimination statutes. Supporters claim the bill will prevent discrimination; in reality, the bill endangers religious freedom by opening the door for the state to punish any person or organization — including small and home-based businesses — that refuses, for religious or other moral reasons, to offer or sell goods or services to homosexuals, bisexuals, 'transgendered' and transsexual individuals.

Focus on the Family Action began airing radio ads today to inform Coloradans about this over-reaching bill.

SB 200 would apply to all "public accommodations" in Colorado — including gender-specific public restrooms in shopping malls, movie theaters and churches, and public locker rooms in athletic facilities, which would suddenly be required to permit equal access to men, women and cross-dressers. Churches, mosques and synagogues would be exempt.

"With SB 200, we no longer have two 'sexes,' " said Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "We enter a brave new world with a myriad of 'sexual orientations.' This bill, unfortunately, is in keeping with a national effort by 'transgender' advocacy organizations to accomplish an open-bathroom policy."

Hausknecht said sexual predators can be expected to use this law as "cover" as they search for their next victims — in any public bathroom they come across.

"SB 200 threatens public safety and tramples religious freedoms," he said. "This bill needs to be vetoed and sent back to the Legislature with instructions to come back next session with something that all Coloradans can be proud of."

TAKE ACTION
If you live in Colorado, please call and e-mail Gov. Bill Ritter today and ask him to veto SB 200. On the e-mail form, select "Share Your Opinion" from the drop-down menu. If you live outside Colorado, you can stay up to date on legislation in your state through your Family Policy Council.

"The Palestinians' time is running out"

Here is a great one from www.haaretz.com. Long but good.

By Bradley Burston. For my Palestinian friends, with sadness:

I understand why you long ago came to believe that time was on your side. I understand the many factors, demographic, cultural, historic, geo-political, which have served to reinforce that belief, the strong conviction that Palestinian statehood was inevitable, inalienable - in every sense, a matter of time.

I understand why you have come to believe that the state of Israel is merely the latest in a long series of fleeting colonial episodes, that its roots are elsewhere, its strength is illusory, its endurance eroded, its spirit broken, its future dim. I understand that you believe you can wait these people out, wear them down, outfight them and out-believe them and out-populate them and, in the end, take them over.

I understand that you believe that rockets and mortars from the north, south, east, and, eventually, west, can depopulate and peel back and obliterate the borders of pre-1967 Israel until there will be no need to agree to a Jewish state on those borders, no need to compromise on refugees, Jerusalem, settlements, no need to talk, no need for self-scrutiny and reconsideration, no need to bend.

I understand that you believe that this is your right, religiously, morally, politically. I understand why you believe that you can wait.

But this month, three generations since 1948, since your Nakba, this is what I ask you to consider:

Your time is running out.

If you do not begin to act with all of your wisdom in moving toward statehood, you run the risk of becoming the Kurds of the Mediterranean basin, the Native Americans of the Middle East, permanently stateless, eternally denied.

If you do not begin to rethink the course which the Palestinian national movement has taken, you must begin to consider the idea of a world without a Palestine. The world is beginning to feel more and more comfortable with that possibility, and it is time for you to think hard about the reasons why.

We in the post-modern West have spent years educating ourselves to believe that all cultures are equally valid - with the possible exception, of course, of our own. We have taken it on faith that to criticize the culture of an indigenous people is obscenely imperialist, paternalist.

In short, we gave you a pass. And we encouraged you to give yourselves one. In respecting you for your steadfastness, we refrained from calling you on your passivity. In accepting and amplifying your contentions as to Israel's acts of wrongdoing, we chose not to hold you accountable for your own, or to explain them away as a function of occupation,

You learned, over time, to hold Israel responsible for the whole of your plight. You learned, over time, to ignore, explain away, blame entirely on Israel, or otherwise deny the ways in which your actions and, in particular, your passivity, have deepened and fostered your misery. You learned to excuse your leaders their corruption, and their policy of foiling Israeli and foreign attempts to improve your conditions. You learned to excuse your Arab brothers their duplicity and their lip service and their exploitation and their cold shoulder and their contempt and their consummate failure to come to your aid.

In the process, you may have grown accustomed to a definition of time, and of indigenous peoples, that bears re-examination. There is, first of all, this:

The Jews are an indigenous people here, no less than you.

The Jews have every right to have a nation here, no less than you.

The Jews are stubborn and proud and fundamentally fierce as hell, no less than you.

You have dismissed the Jews as a foreign influence. You have dismissed their history, waved away their blood and sinew tie to Jerusalem, acted as though they have no business here but evil.

But in the decades you have spent misleading yourself about the true nature of the culture and the origins of the Jews, generation upon generation of Jews has been born here. They are natives. They are not going anywhere. And even the leftists among them are willing to die in defense of staying on this soil.

Worse, perhaps, is the way in which you took deadly aim at the concept of land for peace, and destroyed it, perhaps for all time. Your artful justifications of using Gaza settlement ruins for Qassam launchers wash with no one. You have justified every last claim and prediction of the Israeli right. You have lost immeasurable international support. You are looked upon abroad as Polarized to the heart, paralyzed by internal strife, and unable to arrive at, abide by, or implement decisions.

Your unfortunate ally Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, rising to your defense, marked the anniversary by telling you that Israel "has reached the end like a dead rat after being slapped by the Lebanese" and tha "Those who think they can revive the stinking corpse of the usurping and fake Israeli regime by throwing a birthday party are seriously mistaken."

Your unfortunate ally Osama Bin Laden told you last week that Israel's 60th anniversary was "evidence that Palestine is our land, and the Israelis are invaders and occupiers who should be fought."

"We will continue, God permitting, the fight against the Israelis and their allies ... and will not give up a single inch of Palestine as long as there is one true Muslim on earth."

What your unfortunate allies are saying is that it is more important to eliminate the Jewish state than it is to create a Palestinian one.

For this entire decade, the Palestinian national movement has acted accordingly. At the same time, it has effectively done the bidding of the Israeli right, doing everything in its power to raise the status of the settlers from an unruly, unfocused, marginalized, declining entity to that of a prophetic force.

Thanks in no small part to you, the settlement movement is flourishing as never before, confident that your rockets and your rhetoric will see to it that, as the years and generations pass, the settlers will come to be seen as, yes, indigenous.

The settlers will never be able to repay their debt to you.

You may have noted that in the wake of the second intifada, hundreds of suicide bombings in Israel's main cities, and thousands of Qassams, mortar shells and Katyushas, the Israeli left is furious with you, the Israeli center wants never to hear from you again, and only the Israeli right is delighted with the decisions you have made and the actions you have undertaken.

You made conclude from this that the left were untrustworthy to begin with and all Israelis are the same.

Or you might think twice.

True, Israel was once isolated, stigmatized, universally condemned, boycotted. But your actions, and those of Bin Laden and Iran, have effectively welcomed Israel into the good graces of a range of countries which have begun to think twice about you. And have ceased to care about you. No country in the world - Israel included - has cried wolf more often in the past than you have. Now, when your distress is truly worse than ever, the cry has fallen on deaf - or hostile - ears.

We in the media coddled you, supported you, cast you as the noble underdog. In response, you decided that the Jews control the media, take Israel's side, slander the cause of Palestine.

Look again.

Your celebration of terror has alienated many of your closest friends.

You did this. You. No one else. You have convinced exactly those Israelis who were willing to trade the West Bank for peace, that this would be a literally fatal error.

Last month, as if to remove the remainder of doubt, the veteran Palestinian Authority Representative in Lebanon, Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki, told a Lebanese television station, "Let me tell you, when the ideology of Israel collapses, and we take, at least, Jerusalem, the Israeli ideology will collapse in its entirety, and we will begin to progress with our own ideology, Allah willing, and drive them out of all of Palestine."

You owe your children more than this. You owe your children more than pipedreams, nightmares, threats and delusions. You owe them more than victim status. You owe your children, and theirs, more than a culture of failure and passivity and graft and violence and loss. You owe your children and theirs - and ours - an honest search for peace.

Or would you rather that I simply shut up? Just the rantings of another untrustworthy Jew? Still want to believe you did everything right? Still want to believe that your few friend remaining in the Western left are more than just powerless cranks? Still want to believe that if you hold out long enough, everything will come your way?

As you wish.

I invite you to compare notes with the Native American.

More Head In The Sand Idiocy From Canada.

Here are the pull quotes.

"The United Nations has been arguing for 10 years about a definition of terrorism," he said.

"It simply can't agree because of the old cliche that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

"And many G77 countries, developing world countries, argue that resistance against occupation should not be counted as terrorism. Western countries say that it should."

Those statements just scream Palistinans killing Israelis. Why the U.N. building should be bull dozed in ocean. They forgot on reason regarding why terrorism has declined, assuming thats true. Our brave boys in the military are killing them every chance they get, God bless them. Here is the story from www.abc.net.au

A new Canadian study has found there's been a sharp decline in the number of people killed by terrorists around the world.

Researchers from the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver have just released a Human Security Brief.

They've looked at three sets of data collected in the United Sates on domestic and international terrorism and they've found there's been a drop in the number of civilian fatalities from terrorist attacks.

Andrew Mack, director of the Human Security Report project, says the decline is around 40 per cent, based on a review of the three major data sets in the United States.

Mr Mack says that decline is since 2001 and doesn't include deaths in Iraq.

"Two of these data sets that go back to 1998 aren't really counting consistently because if they're counting civilian fatalities in Iraq, of which there are thousands, they should also be counting civilian fatalities in Africa's civil wars, and they're simply not doing this," he said.

But even counting civilian fatalities in Iraq, Mr Mack says there has still been a decline.

"But the decline now doesn't start until 2007," he said.

"And what happens in 2007 is that just as Iraq was driving casualties up until that point, in 2007 civilian casualties overall declined radically in Iraq, and civilian casualties from terrorism as defined by these data sets also declined by about 40 per cent."

That decline, according to the researchers, has coincided with a sharp drop in support for terrorist groups in the Muslim world.

"If terrorist organisations don't have popular support they can't have a popular revolution," he said.

"If they don't have conventional military capability, they can't defeat governments by force.

"So essentially what we can say is that these Al Qaeda-type organisations, because they've lost so much public support, do not pose a threat to states; they're certainly not a threat, there's not a civilisational struggle going on here.

"They are obviously a threat to individuals, but that threat to individuals is relatively small compared to the threats that we get from wars or homicides or even traffic accidents."

Mr Mack says the figures on fatalities do depend on how terrorism is defined.

SCARY. "Explosives detected at Swedish nuclear plant"

From /www.radionetherlands.nl

Published: Wednesday 21 May 2008 14:18 UTC
Last updated: Wednesday 21 May 2008 15:38 UTC
Police in southern Sweden have arrested two men suspected of attempting to sabotage the nuclear power plant at Oskarshamn. The arrests were made after traces of the high explosive TATP were found on a bag belonging to a welder entering the plant. TATP, which is relatively easy to make, was used by the British 'shoe bomber' Richard Reid when he planned to blow up an aeroplane in 2001, and by the London bombers in July 2005. Although an office building on the plant's property was evacuated, the nuclear installation itself was not shut down.

The Oskarshamn plant is one of Sweden's 10 nuclear power plants. Its three reactors provide approximately 10 percent of the country's energy.

This Gives Paranoia A Whole New Meaning.

"Burma fearful of oil grab by US aid."

Man what kind of tin foil hate brigade  is running that place. I haves only seen paranoia that bad in the Democratic congress.

HOPES that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon could today broker a deal to get aid flowing into cyclone-hit Burma looked grim last night, after the junta cited fears of an American invasion when it yesterday blocked US naval ships and helicopters from delivering supplies.

On the eve of Mr Ban's visit to Burma, the New Light of Myanmar, a mouthpiece for the ruling junta, said US naval ships and helicopters poised offshore would not be allowed to deliver aid to cyclone victims - citing fears of a US invasion aimed at grabbing the country's oil reserves.
